NEW YORK (AP) Comments on the San Francisco 49ers by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):

Chris Berman (ESPN, 4) - Lesson learned, hopefully.

Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 3) - Will be interesting to see how they respond to getting blitzed by Giants.

Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 5)

Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 4) - Very uncharacteristic performance from Alex Smith with three interceptions. Still a playoff team.

Bob Glauber (Newsday, 3) - Were the 49ers too amped up in trying to avenge last year's NFC championship Game loss to the Giants? Sure looked that way.

Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 5) - The NFL's top-ranked defense and top-ranked rushing offense is a difficult combination to beat unless you're the New York Giants.

Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 6) - Talk about an overreaction. One loss, and people want to jettison Alex Smith. This is a good team that had a bad day. It happens.

Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 5) - When the ground game becomes an afterthought, they're vulnerable.

Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 5) - Last week I debated about the Niners as the top team in the league now they have two games (Vikings and Giants) that raise questions.

John Lynch (Fox Sports, 6) - The 49ers were punched in the mouth by the G-Men and had no answer. Still a very good team who will contend this year.

Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 5) - After failing to avenge last season's NFC championship game loss to the Giants, the 49ers now must win Thursday against Seattle to maintain at least a share of first place in the NFC West.

Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 5) - They have played two teams with current winning records and lost to both of them.
