NEW YORK (AP) Comments on the San Francisco 49ers by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):

---

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (4)

Chris Berman (ESPN, 3) - Back to winning slugfests.

Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 2) - Defense makes them the class of NFC West, but Alex Smith needs to play better.

Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 4)

Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 6) - Alex Smith and the passing attack need to pick things up some, but still best team in that division.

Bob Glauber (Newsday, 4) - Niners win ugly over Seahawks as Alex Smith struggles a second straight week. Sign of more problems to come on offense?

Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 4) - The 49ers are one of only three teams ranked in the top 10 in both offense and defense along with Dallas and Detroit.

Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 5) - Maybe the next televised debate should be between Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll.

Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 5) - They go as Frank Gore goes, and he usually goes a long way.

Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 4) - The 49ers are built like the Texans. They don't beat themselves, but their challenge is still learning to play from behind if there are any teams out there that can get a substantial lead on them.

John Lynch (Fox Sports, 5) - The 49ers respond, winning a tough fought division game vs. the Seahawks.

Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 5) - Frank Gore and the offensive line put on a clinic about how to run between the tackles in a gritty victory over Seattle.

Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 5) - The offensive team from the Canton Greats in Madden would have a hard time scoring on these guys.
