NEW YORK (AP) Comments on the San Francisco 49ers by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):

Chris Berman (ESPN, 2) - Had week off to celebrate with SF Giants - both have great defenses.

Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 1) - They've given up six points or less in four of their last five games.

Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 4)

Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 5) - Poised for a strong second half finish fresh off a bye.

Bob Glauber (Newsday, 6) - Niners come off a bye week to host the Rams. Gotta like the home team this week.

Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 4) - The 49ers have allowed only six touchdown passes through eight games. Little wonder they have the best pass defense in the NFC.

Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 4) - Admit it, the 49ers are a complete team and a playoff lock, and they're making another run for a first-round bye.

Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 4) - Let's face it: they're going to rule the NFC West for awhile.

Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 5) - The Niners have been on a bye but not forgotten. They will climb right back in the top three in the next week or two.

John Lynch (Fox Sports, 4) - The 49ers rested with a bye week but have looked dominant of late. A tough, physical, talented and well coached football team.

Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 4) - Following a bye, the chance to post a 3-0 division record awaits Sunday against visiting St. Louis.

Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 5) - As Alex Smith goes, so go the Niners. He has a 122.3 passer rating in their six victories.
