NEW YORK (AP) Comments on the Chicago Bears by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
CHICAGO BEARS (8)
Chris Berman (ESPN, 9) - Cutler plays and Bears are back.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 5) - Without Jay Cutler, they are nothing special. With him, they could be.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 8)
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 7) - Cutler makes all the difference, can't win without him.
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 8) - Jay Cutler for MVP? He should absolutely be in the discussion, especially with how poorly the Bears play when he's not in the lineup.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 7) - Four of the top six defenses in the NFL lead division races: No. 2 San Francisco, No. 3 Chicago, No. 4 Denver and No. 6 Houston.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 7) - Funny how that offensive line looks so much better once Jay Cutler returns.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 8) - That "next man up" refrain is getting a little old in the Windy City.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 7) - This team has a 13-2 record with Jay Cutler and a 1-6 record without him in their last 22 games. Injuries this week could be a problem for the defense.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 9) - The Bears D made a statement that the drubbing they took at the hands of the 49er's was just an aberration, or San Francisco is very good. Jay Cutler is back, but now an already struggling O-line is banged up.
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 8) - Props to Bears quarterback Jay Cutler for his efforts in last Sunday's 28-10 win over Minnesota. Cutler, who had missed the past two games with a concussion, has long had the ability to make a mediocre offense look good dating back to his days at Vanderbilt.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 8) - Players are dropping like flies, but as long as the quarterback is still standing the Bears should have a chance.
