NEW YORK (AP) Comments on the Chicago Bears by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
CHICAGO BEARS (16)
Chris Berman (ESPN, 11) - Tough to win when you can't score.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 19) - They should win next two, but missing playoffs could cost Lovie Smith.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 15)
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 17) - Fading fast, where's the team that started 7-1?
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 17) - Bears could become only the second team in the 23-year history of the current playoff format to miss out on the postseason after a 7-1 start. Jay Cutler playing hurt and it clearly showed against the Packers.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 13) - For the 8-6 Bears to qualify for the playoffs as an NFC wild-card they would likely need to win their final two games on the road against Arizona and Detroit.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 17) - Brian Urlacher doesn't care about the media and fans, and that's OK. Because the way the Bears are playing it won't be long before nobody cares about them, either.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 15) - Peaking in October is no recipe for success in the NFL.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 16) - Too many injuries on defense to beat the good teams. Protecting Jay Cutler is still a problem.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 13) - Lovie Smith says "the tournament has begun" and this Sunday's matchup against the Cardinals is a must win. Will the banged up Bears play like it?
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 15) - The Bears teeter on missing the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons. If they do, it could spell the end of head coach Lovie Smith's nine-year tenure.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 15) - They have lost five of six and have one of the most impotent offenses in the league.
