- NEW YORK - The Heisman Trophy is awarded Saturday, with Notre Dame's Manti Te'o, Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel and Kansas State's Collin Klein vying for college football's top honor.

- KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Cincinnati's Butch Jones is hired as the football coach at Tennessee, a former SEC power that has had three consecutive losing seasons. News conference 2:30 p.m.

- PHILADELPHIA - The Commander-in-Chief's trophy is up for grabs Saturday when Army plays Navy for the 113th time. The Middies are going for their 11th straight win in the series.

- OKLAHOMA CITY - The Lakers face an Oklahoma City Thunder team led by Kevin Durant and among the best in the Western Conference. Kobe Bryant and Los Angeles under .500. Game starts 9:30 p.m.

- NEW YORK - Brooklyn welcomes one of its own, with Mark Jackson leading his Golden State Warriors against the Nets. The Brooklyn native starred for St. John's and the Knicks. Game starts 7:30 p.m.

- The NHL and union break off labor talks, leaving the season in greater peril than ever. No negotiations are scheduled and both sides now must reassess on how to proceed.

- HOOVER, Ala. - The NCAA men's soccer tournament holds its College Cup semifinals: Georgetown vs. Maryland (4 p.m.) and Creighton vs. Indiana (6:30 p.m.).

- ST. LOUIS - A memorial is held for Rick Majerus, the jovial, basketball-obsessed coach who had only one losing season in 25 years with four schools. He died at 64 last weekend.

- ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - The Broncos haven't lost in two months, yet there are problems. Peyton Manning insists that's a good thing. After all, what good does it do to peak before the playoffs?

- HOUSTON - Andre Johnson sometimes has to tell his teammates how lucky they are to be on one of the best teams. For years, Johnson languished on terrible Texans teams.

- BOSTON - Tom Brady has an addition to his backfield. The Patriots' quarterback and supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen announce the birth of their second child, a girl named Vivian Lake.
