WASHINGTON KASTLES

The Washington Kastles crept closer to clinching home court advantage in the Eastern Conference Championship match, defeating the Boston Lobsters 25-9 Monday at the Smith Center.

With two matches remaining in the regular season, the 9-3 Kastles hold a two-match lead over the 7-5 Philadelphia Freedoms. Should the Kastles defeat the Springfield Lasers or the Freedoms lose to the Lobsters on Tuesday, the Eastern Conference Championship will be decided at the Smith Center on Thursday at 7 pm.

Monday's match was marred when World No. 85 singles player Sharon Fichman of Boston suffered a left knee injury during pre-match warm-ups.

With Fichman unable to participate, Lobsters coach Robert Greene forfeited the women's doubles set 5-0 and sent D.C. native Megan Moulton-Levy in to play Martina Hingis in women's singles.

On paper, it appeared to be a mismatch: Hingis, a five-time Grand Slam singles champion, against Moulton-Levy, a doubles specialist who has played one singles match on tour since March 2010.

But the William & Mary alum Moulton-Levy played inspired tennis, extending Hingis to the winner-take-all 4-4 point of a tiebreaker before the Kastles star took the set 5-4.

In men's play, Bobby Reynolds earned his fifth straight Mylan World TeamTennis singles win over Rik de Voest, defeating the South African 5-1. De Voest could do no better in doubles as he and James Cerretani fell 5-0 to Reynolds and Leander Paes.

The Kastles captain Paes teamed with Hingis to clinch Washington's victory, rallying from 3-1 down to edge Cerretani and Moulton-Levy in a tiebreaker 5-4.

Washington is back in action Tuesday night at the Smith Center as Sloane Stephens makes her Kastles debut against Springfield.
