AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Sheldon McClellan scored 25 points as Texas jumped out to an early lead and never trailed during a 69-46 victory over Coppin State on Monday night in a Maui Invitational opening-round game.

Ioannis Papapetrou added 10 points and nine rebounds for Texas, whose 12-player scholarship roster consists of five sophomores and seven freshmen. The Longhorns outrebounded Coppin State 50-25 and led by as many as 27 points late in the second half.

Patrick Cole led Coppin State with 15 points, but made just 3 of 12 field goals, all of them 3-pointers. Troy Franklin added 14 points and had eight steals for the Eagles.
