EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) Kristijan Krajina and Sam Prescott scored 15 points apiece and Mount St. Mary's used a second-half surge to defeat Monmouth (N.J.) 71-59 Saturday night In Northeast Conference action.
The Mountaineers (6-7, 1-1), who led by nine in the first half, allowed the Hawks to get within a point twice in the first 4 minutes of the second half before building another nine-point lead.
Monmouth (5-10, 0-2) closed to 46-45 with 10:34 left, but Mount St. Mary's used a 16-5 run to pull away with 4:27 to go. The Mountaineers then hit 9 of 12 free throws to seal the win.
After committing just four turnovers in a 72-65 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson, Mount St. Mary's had 16 miscues against the Hawks, but Monmouth was able to convert them into only 10 points.
Andrew Nicholas scored 19 points and Stephen Spinella added 12 to lead Monmouth, which has lost seven straight.
