Lefty reliever Sean Burnett walked away from the Nats this offseason to sign a two-year, $8 million deal with the Angels and now he is back in the news with quite the oddball injury.
Burnett is out for the next 4-5 days after straining his back trying to pick up one of his kids. Burnett says he was lifting his four-year-old son into a shopping cart at the grocery store and that’s how it happened.
Burnett pitched four seasons with the Nationals after coming over in a trade with the Pirates. He posted a 2.38 ERA last season in 70 relief appearances.
Burnett has a history of back issues, but the MRI came back negative and it doesn’t sound like a big concern. Either way, just a weird story.
