Williams: Nats want to make amends for 2013
Former Nationals catcher Brian Schneider has joined the minor league coaching ranks, accepting the manager job for the Class-A Jupiter Hammerheads. Schneider, who played with the Nats, Mets and Phillies - all NL East teams - will now coach a Miami Marlins farm system affiliate.
Schneider played eight years in the Expos/Nationals organization. The Expos drafted him in the fifth round of the 1995 MLB Draft and he played his first five years in the majors with Montreal. Then, as the Nats moved to D.C., Schneider followed and caught over 120 games for each of the first two Nationals teams in Washington.
Schneider played a total of 13 MLB seasons before retiring in 2012. After a year off, he is back in baseball.
The Hammerheads went 68-69 last season and lost in the 2012 Florida State League Championpship. Schneider replaces former Jupiter coach Andy Haines.
