Williams: Nats want to make amends for 2013
We're still about eight weeks or so until pitchers and catchers report to Viera, Fl., but the Nats are already looking ahead to the summer at Nationals Park.
Last week they sent out information on tryouts for their 2014 game 'entertainment crew' including Racing Presidents, Ball Girls and the NatPack. All three jobs have different responsibilities and require different qualifications, and they're listed in the press release.
The NatPack interacts with fans in the crowd, leads cheers and chants and distribute promotional items. The Racing Presidents' job is rather self-explanatory, you run around the field in a costume. The Nats say the required size for candidates is between 5-foot-7 and 6-foot-6. That's a pretty wide range.
Ball girls are expected to be athletic with softball experience a plus they say. They field foul balls that get past the corner infielders, not fair balls, and must "know the difference between the two" according to the Nats.
The Racing Presidents application involves an online questionnaire, which probably tries to weed out certain candidates. They wouldn't want a President going rogue during the race.
