And so, August has come to an end, and what a month it was for the Nationals. It began with this team 10 games over .500, clinging to a 1 1/2-game lead over the Braves in the NL East. It ended with this team 19 games over .500, now up 6 games (though that number actually has been trimmed from the high-water mark of 8 games established last weekend.

If the Nationals go on to win the division (and potentially more), this is the month we will look back on, the one that catapulted this team to the top of the National League and made the rest of the baseball world take notice. It was the month of the 10-game winning streak, the month of the nightly walk-off win, the month when everything seemed to come together.
