After losing the first two of this weekend series with the New York Mets, the Nationals will send Ross Ohlendorf to the mound looking to avoid the sweep. They sit 7 1/2 games out of the NL Wild Card with 27 games remaining on their schedule, this the first of their final month of the regular season.
Ohlendorf is making his fifth start of the season for Washington and his second against New York. Having also faced the Mets in relief, Ohlendorf has allowed two earned runs through nine innings vs. the club this year. As a starter this season he is 2-1 with a 2.82 ERA through 22 1/3 innings pitched.
Jonathon Niese (6-6, 3.69) is facing the Nats for the first time this year. The 26-year-old, however, has a strong history against the franchise. Through six starts against Washington he sports a 3-0 record and a 2.37 ERA.
