After a spring training hampered by tendinitis, the Phillies made it official on Friday that Cole Hamels will begin the season on the disabled list. Hamels is now on the 15-day DL retroactive to March 21.

The team is officially calling it left biceps tendinitis. Hamels threw two innings in a minor league game on Thursday as he works his way back.

Hamels went 8-14 with a 3.60 ERA in 2013. He is a three-time All-Star and former World Series MVP.

The Phillies also placed reliever MIke Adams, infielder Freddy Galvis, starter Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, reliever Ethan Martin and outfielder Darin Ruf on the 15-day disabled list.
