Still apparently looking to upgrade their bench, the Nationals have a renewed interested in free agent infielder Jeff Baker.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports has the report, saying the Marlins - and maybe the Orioles - are also looking at the 32-year-old. Baker played last season with the Texas Rangers.

Baker bats right and brings solid power off the bench. He held a .905 OPS with 11 home runs in 74 games with Texas in 2013. He's also somewhat versatile defensively having played first, second and third base last year, as well as the outfield.

Baker would perhaps fill the same role the Nats looked at Mark Reynolds for, the role currently projected for Tyler Moore. Moore is a solid option as the backup first baseman, but Baker could provide more experience.

The Nationals showed interest in Baker several weeks ago, but nothing came of it. He is one of the best free agent position players still available.
