In addition to Brad Ausmus and Matt Williams, as well as at least two internal candidates, the Washington Nationals have interviewed Toronto Blue Jays bench coach DeMarlo Hale for their managerial opening. The news was first reported by The Washington Post.

Hale gives the Nationals at least one minority candidate to have interviewed, complying with rules set by Major League Baseball. He also gives them another external option to consider, one that several other teams have weighed as a potential manager in recent years.

Hale was a minor league player for five seasons in the Red Sox and Athletics' organizations and has been coaching in the majors since 2002. He spent three years with the Rangers, six seasons with the Red Sox and a year with the Orioles before moving on to Toronto.

Hale, 52, is the fifth candidate the Nationals have interviewed and none of them have MLB managerial experience.
