With pitchers and catchers reporting to their respective MLB camps this week, predictions for the new season are beginning to emerge. Though it's always fun to look at what media members expect will happen, betting odds carry a little more consequence.
On Thursday the first MLB season win total odds came out via the Atlantis Casino in Reno. They have posted MLB win over/unders first for eight consecutive years.
Based on their list, the Nationals are expected to be among the best teams in baseball.
Here is the top five:
Los Angeles Dodgers - 92.5
Detroit Tigers - 91.5
St. Louis Cardinals - 90.5
Washington Nationals - 90.5
Tampa Bay Rays - 88.5
As you see, the Nationals are tied for the third-most wins based on Atlantis' forecast for the 2014 season. After winning 86 games in 2013, they are expected to improve by four or five wins this year.
Is 90.5 too high or too low? Given the Nationals showed they are capable of winning 98 games as they did in 2012, it could be considered low. Then again, last year big things were predicted for them and they fell short.
