Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth will appear with the Potomac Nationals on rehab assignment Wednesday night as he continues to recover from a strained right hamstring. Potomac is scheduled to play the Salem Red Sox at home in Woodbridge, Va.
Werth has not played since May 2 after suffering the injury. He attempted one rehab assignment with Potomac on May 15, but left the game after aggravating it while running to first base.
The 34-year-old took batting practice on Tuesday afternoon and also tested the hamstring in the outfield with sprints. Manager Davey Johnson hopes this second attempt at a rehab assignment goes better than the first time around.
“We’ll see. Hopefully it’s warm weather and not a wet field. He can get a couple of games in and we’ll go from there.”
