Will Nats go after any big names in free agency?

Hardball Talk has released its list of the top 150 free agents for this offseason in Major League Baseball and the group has its fair share of stars, at least when it comes to position players. For starting pitching, there is considerable depth, but no one who will command a $100 million deal.

Among the biggest names are Robinson Cano and Jacoby Ellsbury who will both have monster asking prices. Cano is said to be looking for a deal as high as $300 million while Ellsbury is certainly aiming for something well above the $100M mark.

The Nationals - despite reports that have already surfaced - are unlikely to be in the mix for either of those names, but they certainly have spots to fill. Will they sign a big name as they have for in recent seasons? We'll see.

Here is a look at the top ten (with an one extra) according to HBT:

1. Robinson Cano - NYY - 2B
2. Jacoby Ellsbury - BOS - OF
x. Masahiro Tanaka - JPN - RHP
3. Shin-Soo Choo - CIN - OF
4. Matt Garza - TEX - RHP
5. Ervin Santana - CLE - RHP
6. Ubaldo Jimenez - CLE - RHP
7. Brian McCann - ATL - C
8. Curtis Granderson - NYY - OF
9. Carlos Beltran - STL - OF
10. Hiroki Kuroda - NYY RHP

As far as needs, the Nats will be looking for a starting pitcher, a backup catcher, and likely several bullpen arms and bats for their bench. Perhaps none of the names above will end up in Washington, but they have surprised us before.
