It won’t take long before Martell Webster becomes a fan favorite in Washington.

The Wizards’ shooting guard is engaging, honest and quick with a smile.

His memory, well, that’s another story.

During the Wizards’ brief stay in Kansas City last week for a preseason game against the Miami Heat at Sprint Center, Webster left his car keys in his hotel room.

The Wizards flew from Kansas City to San Antonio for their final preseason game on Friday night and it wasn’t until the team landed at Dulles at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday that Webster realized he didn’t have his keys.

Thanks to an app on his phone, Webster was able to unlock his car door but unable to start it. He called his wife, informed her of his dilemma and told her he’d sleep in the airport parking lot until she picked him up at a more reasonable hour in the morning.

On Thursday Webster was back to driving his car but was still waiting for those keys.

“I’m still waiting for them to send my damn key,” Webster said. “I drove my car [to practice at Verizon Center] today. I’m going to take a picture and as a caption I’m going to have: Redemption.”
