Beal jumps to praise Collins as a 'mentor'

Still a kid in so many ways, Wizards rookie Bradley Beal always prefaces his first comments with praises to a higher power.

The 19-year-old also didn't hesitate in letting teammate Jason Collins know that he supported him, too.

Collins, it was revealed by Sports Illustrated on Monday, will be on the cover of its May 6 issue. After completing his 12th NBA season with the Wizards, Collins, who hopes to continue his career, came out as gay.

The 7-foot center was traded from the Boston Celtics to the Wizards in February, where he played sparingly but was considered a solid locker-room presence.

Others around the league were quick to voice their opinions on Collins via social media. The responses were overwhelmingly positive.
