Sam Cassell will soon be a left coast kind guy.

An assistant coach with the Wizards since 2009, Cassell has been given permission to join Doc Rivers' coaching staff with the Los Angeles Clippers, CSNwashington's Wizards Insider J. Michael reported on Sunday.

Cassell recently coached the Wizards summer league team in Las Vegas. During that late July stretch came a report that the Clippers and Wizards were working on an agreement. Cassell, who has NBA head coaching aspirations, played his final NBA season with the Boston Celtics coached by Rivers, to swap teams.

Two of Rivers' former assistants, Tyronn Lue and Alvin Gentry, left for associate head coaching jobs this offseason. Tom Thibodeau also served as an assistant under Rivers before taking over as head coach with the Chicago Bulls.

The Wizards already lost one assistant this summer off Randy Wittman's coaching staff. Ryan Saunders joining his father Flip with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
