SportsTalk Live: Win a relief for the Wizards?
With 2:06 left in the fourth quarter and the Wizards were stuck at 79 points and had been so for over six minutes. Their 15-point lead was gone they needed someone, anyone, to step up and hit a big shot against Portland -- and that guy was Jordan Crawford.
The third-year guard calmly knocked down a massive three-pointer from the top of the arc to give the Wizards the lead back at 82-80 and, most importantly, temper the gloom-and-doom feel that certainly was in the building as the Wizards closed out to get win #1 of the season, 84-82.
"Definitely monkey off the back," Crawford said. "We were in a lot of close games and to finally pull one out shows we can do it and shows that we are getting better each day and not giving up."
Crawford finished with a game-high 19 points but none bigger than that three-pointer to stop the Blazers' run and help the Wizards get that much needed win.
"It feels good to pull one out, especially the way we did because we've been losing a lot of those,” Crawford said. “It gives us a lot of confidence."
Once a starter, the volume shooting Crawford is now coming off the bench for coach Randy Wittman.
"I thought Jordan coming in was pretty consistent all night long," Wittman said. "He gave us a lift with those 19 points."
