While the Wizards are jostling for playoff position in the East, the Phoenix Suns are fighting for their playoff lives. They're six games better in the win column than the Wizards but where it counts most they're one-half game behind the Dallas Mavericks for the West's No. 8 seed and tied in the win column with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Any sort of losing streak could seal their fate.
With a lighting-fast backcourt of Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe, they can be dangerous in the open court. And the Suns have plenty of other versatile weapons, including Alex Len who is a little-used rookie center from the University of Maryland. The Wizards interviewed him before settling on Otto Porter as the No. 3 overall pick in last year's draft.
"We played them already without Bledsoe. It was a tough game. They're in the same boat we're in, playing for something," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. "Trying to stay alive. If we come out and try to outscore this team? That's what they can do. They can score points. We got to win this game with defensive effort moreso than worrying about trying to outscore them."
