T-Wolves snap Wizards' winning streak
Despite the bad fortune when it comes to injuries and lapses in defensive play, the Wizards have a chance to end the year with a .500 record by beating the Pistons twice in a row.
TV: CSN, 7 p.m. ET Saturday at Verizon Center. Wizards Central at 6:30 p.m. Radio: The Fan 106.7; FM WFED-AM 1500.
Last game: Wizards (12-14) lost 120-98 at the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, ending a three-game winning streak; Pistons (14-17) lost at the Orlando Magic 109-92 on Friday, their third loss in four games.
Last meeting: Pistons won 113-102 on Oct. 30 at the Palace of Auburn Hills in the season-opener for both teams as they pounded the Wizards with 58 points in the paint.
Projected starting lineups: Wizards –- PG John Wall, SG Trevor Ariza, SF Martell Webster, PF Trevor Booker, C Marcin Gortat. Pistons –- PG Brandon Jennings, SG Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, SF Josh Smith, PF Greg Monroe, C Andre Drummond.
Entry passes: 1). Bradley Beal normally would start at SG but after hurting his left knee Friday he's getting an MRI early Saturday and could be out. 2). Monroe had 24 points and 16 rebounds in the first meeting as the Wizards had no answer for him on the boards. 3). Gortat, who had just been acquired via trade, didn't start but will this time. Nene, however, who did start that game had a sore foot and was ineffective. 4). Wall has to win his matchup with Jennings and is better when he lets his defense fuel him on offense. 5). Booker has to produce more offense than the two points.
X-factors: Backup C Kevin Seraphin (right knee) sat out his second game Friday because of discomfort though an MRI showed no structural damage. ... If Beal isn't able to play, this could be Otto Porter's chance to earn more playing time.
He said it: "They were tougher than we were. They pushed us around. We had no resistance. We've got to put this game behind us." -- Wizards coach Randy Wittman after the blowout loss in Minnesota
Around the bend: The Wizards likely will be off Sunday and travel to Detroit to close 2013 on Monday at the Pistons (CSN, 7:30). They'll have New Year's Eve off before playing at home vs. the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday (CSN, 6).
