John Wall is making $7.4 million for this season, the last on his rookie scale contract. His five-year, $80 million contract extension he signed in the offseason will kick in starting 2014-15 when he earns $13.7 million. DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings is making $4.9 million on the final year of his rookie deal. He'll pull in $13.7 million to begin his four-year, $62 million for 204-15. So they're picking up the dinner tab after Sunday's game when they sit down with their college coach?
That would be wrong.
Kentucky coach John Calipari, sitting courtside before the Wizards play the Kings at Verizon Center, flew in to see his former players. Both stayed for one season with the Wildcats before turning pro. Wall was taken No. 1 overall by the Wizards in the 2010 draft. Cousins was selected fifth.
This isn't the first time the trio will get together for dinner as professionals. But Calipari, giddy when chatting about Wall's maturity and development as he became an All-Star for the first time, could only smile when asked about the obvious. The bill.
"Last time I took out those two they ate like they were going to the electric chair," Calipari told CSN Washington. "And I paid."
