Jan Vesely flies in for dunk just inside FT line
CHARLOTTE -- Jan Vesely jumped passing lane and stole the ball from Ramon Sessions for a breakaway dunk. Just as the 7-footer touched the paint with his first step, he took off -- with Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan, Mr. Come Fly With Me, in attendance -- and threw it down with authority. The lead was 30-28 and the Wizards would go on to win the game handily.
When asked if he saw Vesely's dunk, Marcin Gortat, who has spent a lot of time working out with his fellow European teammate, had this to say: "I (didn't) see it but I know he's capable of doing some sick stuff. We practice a lot, just working on our game on our own. He's a black man in a white body. He can jump out of the gym."
The locker room broke up in laughter, and when told of Gortat's comment's about Vesely the Wizards' expert prankster, Martell Webster, weighed in: "You know, Jan, I love the kid. But he's nowhere near black. At all. Have you heard his music? ... I don't see it."
The laughter was even louder.
John Wall did see the dunk. "I was about to check in and he was about to jump from the free-throw line. I'm looking like, "Oh snap, he might not make it.' He winked at me and was like, 'I got that in me.' I thought he was going to one-legged windmill, he's got so much stuff in his arsenal he just don't try them in the game."
When told of what Gortat said, Wall paused and smiled. "I'm going to have to think about that one."
That's what winning, even though the streak is just at one game, can do for a locker room.
Let's see what the atmosphere is like Wednesday, where they play at the New Orleans Pelicans (CSN, 8 p.m. ET).
