Patrick Ewing and Michael Jordan, together again.

The longtime NBA star center is the new lead assistant for the Jordan-owned Charlotte Bobcats, Adrian Wojnarowski from Yahoo! Sports reported on Tuesday.

Rumors that Ewing, who sat out last season after serving eight as an assistant in the NBA, would join the Bobcats surfaced last month following Charlotte's hire of new head coach Steve Clifford. Sacramento's new head coach Mike Malone was reportedly also wooing Ewing.

Back in their playing days, Jordan got the best of Ewing in the biggest moments, from the tongue-wagging North Carolina freshman guard sinking the go-ahead shot against Ewing's Hoyas in the 1982 NCAA Championship game to his Bulls consistently fending over the big man's Knicks. The pair did hook up to bring up gold for the 1984 and 1992 U.S. Olympic men's basketball team - and as Wojnarowski notes, in the 1996 animated movie Space Jam.

Considering the Bobcats suspect roster, It could be awhile before the pair bring that kind of success - the gold medal equivalent that is - to Charlotte. On the other hand, training camp stories about past glory should be fun.
