(*Updated following pre-draft trades, hence 4.1. Lottery picks affected)
Don't let the Lebron James free agency news distract you from the actual big story of the week: The 2014 NBA Draft takes place on Thursday night.
Fine, the four-time MVP opting out of his contract with the Miami Heat actually trumps whether Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker goes number one and to which team, or how far injured center Joel Embiid slides or even what the Wizards will do with the 46th-overall pick.
However, what happens to James and Carmelo Anthony, not to mention Washington free agents Marcin Gortat and Trevor Ariza, can't truly be dealt with until July 1.
Actually, that's not entirely true, either, because some teams might make deals involving picks in one direction or another in the hopes of building an immediate contender, shedding salary, planning for the long-term future or attracting said free agents.
Regardless, the center of the NBA world for the next 24-plus hours is indeed the draft. Therefore, here's my latest (and final*) mock draft, version 4.0. This edition looks at the entire first round plus notable selections in round two, which of course includes Washington's lone pick.
As a reminder, in 2.0, I had the Wizards select Iowa wing guard Roy Devyn Marble, then LSU power forward Johnny O'Bryant in the 3.0 version (the initial mock draft was for lottery teams only).
(*) My plan does not involve version 4.1, though I reserve the right to change picks as news breaks. Hey, we started this and we're playing it out until the monitor says "pencils down."
