Wizards still trying to work Gortat into lineup
Although coach Randy Wittman indicated earlier in the week that Nene should be OK to play in Friday's home-opener vs. the Philadelphia 76ers, there's no definitive word on his status after morning shootaround.
Nene, who started at center Wednesday vs. the Detroit Pistons, hurt his left calf in the first quarter. He later confirmed his injury to CSN Washington and didn't practice Thursday and was seen wearing a sleeve on his lower leg.
Marcin Gortat came off the bench against Detroit and could find himself either starting or getting significantly more minutes than the 17. He had nine points and nine rebounds.
Nene finished with 12 points and three rebounds, but he'd rather play at power forward. Trevor Booker started at that position vs. Detroit as Wittman tried to ease Gortat into the rotation.
Gortat was acquired exactly a week ago from the Phoenix Suns in a trade and only had three practices with his new team before Wednesday's game.
The Wizards and Sixers tip off at Verizon Center (CSN, 7 p.m. ET).
