Wizards fall to Bulls in Rio de Janeiro
The Wizards returned to practice Monday at Verizon Center one person short.
Nene stayed back in Brazil and will not play Tuesday vs. the Miami Heat here (CSN, 7 p.m. ET).
And it has nothing to do with the oft-injured 7-footer's health.
"He's got some family, personal matter to take care of. He won't be here tomorrow night," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. "He'll be back Wednesday."
Nene played 20 minutes and was 1-for-6 in an 83-81 loss to the Chicago Bulls in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.
The team was off Sunday and had a three-hour film and practice session Monday.
"They're getting back in their routine with the game tomorrow and the game Thursday (vs. the New York Knicks). It shouldn't take long," Wittman said.
Nene's absence likely will mean more minutes for Pops Mensah-Bonsu, a veteran free agent post player from George Washington, in a backup role. He played nine minutes in the preseason-opening loss to the Brooklyn Nets but didn't get off the bench vs. Chicago.
"With Nene not playing tomorrow he'll probably get some opportunities now," Wittman said.
Though Wittman wouldn't confirm the starting replacement, expect Kevin Seraphin to get the start.
