The Wizards' 113-112 last-second loss against the Houston Rockets concluded with a suspect foul call and gut-punch finish. Check out the video as a refresher or for the first time.
On a night Trevor Ariza should have talked plenty about setting a franchise record with 10 3-pointers, he could say little postgame about why a referee whistled him for fouling James Harden with four seconds remaining. Honesty will get a player fined in the NBA, after all. The pair tangled, the Rockets star flopped to the deck, the call was made.
Others spoke up about the foul that led to Houston scoring three points in the final four seconds and the Wizards entering the All-Star break on a two-game losing skid. As expected, fans made up the bulk of that vocal faction on Twitter. A certain writer putting together a blog post on this very subject also took exception - as did an 11-time NBA champion coach. Phil Jackson doesn't tweet very often, but when he does and about something very specific to the game of basketball, we take notice.
Dick Bavetta has been around long enuf to know that clasp Harden put on Trevor-offensive foul…okay i’ll SMH— Phil Jackson (@PhilJackson11) February 13, 2014
So, there it is, even the Zen Master believes the Wizards were robbed. Not sure that will help Ariza or Wizards coach Randy Wittman find any peace during the All-Star break. Then again, misery loves company.
