Caps and Wiz bring Christmas to those in need

Two games for Otto Porter. No points. No impact. Not exactly the coming-out party the No. 3 overall draft pick wanted, but in all fairness this is his preseason.

Unfortunately, given the tumultuous health status of the Wizards, they could benefit from him being much more.

"It's early. Two games," Porter said, before leaving to play the Atlanta Hawks on Friday at Phillips Arena. "Build my wind up. Be more prepared in the game. Just continue to learn."

The Wizards (9-11) have been monitoring his minutes since he returned from a right hip flexor strain. Porter played 14 minutes last week and only was used for seven minutes in Monday's 75-74 loss to the Denver Nuggets. Coach Randy Wittman wanted to play him more, but he said he was trying to win the game.

Translation: Porter isn't ready for that kind of real-time action yet.

Porter could be seen calling for the ball several times near the free-throw line, but John Wall didn't look his way. He didn't attempt a shot vs. Denver.

"You just got to go with the flow. Once you get that back your teammates automatically start looking for you," he said. "I'm going to continue to do what I do. It is tough trying to come out of nowhere.

"Everybody had training camp first, preseason, I'm trying to catch back up. I can only do it by practicing and playing.  Once I get that first taste, that first bucket ... the more comfortable I get. Boom."
