GETTING READY for Tuesday's tip-off, the Wizards' sixth preseason game at the Detroit Pistons. ...
Still, there's no update on the status of top rookie draft pick Otto Porter, but coach Randy Wittman isn't operating under any delusions.
Porter (right hip flexor) and Chris Singleton (left foot/toe) were expected to be evaluated by a doctor Monday. However, they were not as they made the trip to Detroit.
Even when he's cleared to return to activity from an injury that has kept him out all of training camp and preseason, Porter will be light years away from being ready to be a significant contributor for the Wizards.
"I'm being honest with you. I got to be able to see him interact in this fold," Wittman said after Monday's practice. "We saw a little bit this summer but summer league and NBA play is two different things. I think he's going to be a solid guy. He understands the game. I got to be able to see what his strengths (are).
"His conditioning is going to be way off. His head is going to be spinning like he's got vertigo just because he hasn't been out there yet. By the time he gets out there we're going to be playing regular season games."
Singleton had surgery on his left foot/toe that required a screw insertion to repair a fracture. Singleton has been on crutches but as recently as last week could be seen getting around without them.
