Unlike last season when John Wall spent most of his time away from D.C., he'll be around a lot more this offseason. He'll also work out with Bradley Beal, probably in St. Louis and at Verizon Center.

"Eager and anxious, especially after you have a season like this," Wall said about looking forward to 2014-15 which will be his fifth season. "You make it to the playoffs for the first time you're ready to get it started again."

He also was an All-Star for the first time. He got the Wizards to the playoffs for the first time in six seasons, and to the second round for the first time in nine. Wall showed promise that he can live up to his $80 million, designated player max extension and make this team competitive in the long-term. To get that done, he needs Beal to be in sync with him. Last season, Beal was restricted from full basketball activities while he recovered from a stress injury in his lower right leg.

"We'll get some time into the gym to try to get each other better. We have a great future together," Wall said. "The way we play this season, we had our ups and downs at the beginning of the season but we improved and grew. To keep get better you got to be able to talk through things and go through a lot of stuff throughout the summer ... Ask him what he thinks I should get better at and what he should do to get better."

The bar has indeed risen. Wall smiles when he talks about the scrutiny that comes with the expectation.

"No way. I'll never get off the hot seat," he said, nodding his head with a smile. "I'm on the hot seat the rest of my career."
