The Wizards will begin training camp in late September, but this time it won't start on the campus of George Mason University and instead entirely take place at Verizon Center, CSNwashington.com has confirmed with multiple persons with knowledge of the situation.

Housing became problematic for the Wizards after the living quarters, The Mason Inn and Conference Center, closed earlier this year. They'd begin camp at Mason's Patriot Center for a week and finish at Verizon.

If the Wizards don't make any more moves, they'll have one roster spot open. They have 14 players under contract for the regular season and can carry a maximum of 15 when 2014-15 starts.

They're under no obligation to fill it. They can hold an open competition in camp or they could leave it unfilled to give them flexibility going into the season. They have trade exceptions available, $4.3 million -- half of the $8.6 million exception acquired from sending Trevor Ariza to the Houston Rockets was used on Kris Humphries -- and $1.2 million that can be used to acquire another player without giving up much of anything.

Preseason schedule: The Wizards played seven last year, with games running Oct. 8-23, and most at neutral sites. The finalized schedule should be announced the day after the regular season lineup is released by the NBA.

Regular-season schedule: The NBA will release the regular season lineup shortly. Last year, this happened Aug. 6.

Training camp opens: For the Wizards, this is scheduled to begin Sept. 30. Media Day will happen before camp commences.

Training camp roster: Last season, the Wizards had four non-roster players in camp though they had no spots available because of 15 contracted players. None was able to force the Wizards to cut an established player to make room. If the 15th roster spot remains open it could make things more interesting. Teams can carry as many as 20 players. Names will trickle out leading up, but the list should be finalized about a week before camp opens.

Regular-season tipoff: It won't be the same for each team, but the Wizards' opener was Oct. 30 last year.
