John Wall's comments after Wednesday's loss to the Charlotte Bobcats, as expected, cost him $15,000, the NBA announced Thursday, for "inappropriate comments towards the officials."
Wall was particularly peeved about a foul he was assessed on a three-point attempt by Kemba Walker with the shot clock almost expired. Wall contended that he didn't touch him. Replays showed the contact, at best, was minimal.
Walker hit all three free throws, and in between a technical foul shot after Wizards coach Randy Wittman was penalized for arguing with officials. It was part of an 11-0 run in which Charlotte quickly 94-80 lead and eased to a key victory vs. an division opponent.
Wall only had two free throw attempts in the game and missed them both, he said, because he still was annoyed by no-calls for him while Walker was rewarded for "screaming."
Said Wittman: "We can't let that be the reason why we win or lose a game. If you lose your concentration because of that, we've got to learn to play through that. Let me deal with them. You guys play the game."
