Wizards get ready to head to Brazil for preseason
The first NBA game to be played in Brazil will be available to viewers in the Washington/Baltimore region, a league official confirmed to CSN Washington on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wizards vs. Chicago Bulls, which will be played Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, will air on NBATV live at 5 p.m. ET.
The Wizards played their preseason opener vs. the Brooklyn Nets at Verizon Center on Tuesday, a 111-106 overtime loss. NBATV, however, blacked out the game which is standard for all local markets whether or not the game is carried by a regional network.
Wizards-Bulls is part of the NBA Global Games in which eight teams play exhibition games abroad. Games also are being played Beijing and Shanghai, China; Bilbao, Spain; Manchester, England; Manila, Philippines; Taipei and Istanbul. The league will have two regular-season games outside the United States, too, which raises the total to 12 teams playing abroad for the 2013-14 season.
Nene, the Wizards' 7-foot forward/center, is from Brazil.
Comcast SportsNet will televise the Wizards preseason games against Miami on Oct. 15 and against New York on Oct. 17 (in Baltimore). All 82 regular season games for the Wizards will be televised by Comcast SportsNet.
