Wizards drop a heartbreaker in OT

Yet again the now 3-19 Wizards had a chance to win a close ball game but failed.

After Wizards center Nene made a valiant defensive move, taking a charge from Atlanta's guard Jeff Teague with 2.7 seconds left and the game tied at 90-90, the Wizards had the ball and an opportunity to win the game. After a timeout, the Wizards got the ball at three-quarters court but they could only get off a 30-foot shot from Jordan Crawford that didn't even come close.

Crawford certainly was the right player to get the ball in that late game situation as he was red-hot, scoring 25 points and 5 three-pointers up to that point. The problem was he got the inbounds pass so far from the hoop that he could take only one dribble and hoist a deep three ball.

The game went to overtime in which the Hawks would hit the big shot, a Deshawn Stevenson three-pointer with 2:08 left, to break a 93-93 tie as Atlanta would go on to win, 100-95.

"It really just kind of boiled down as it has a lot this year to making a play, making a shot, making an open shot, making a play coming down the stretch," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said.

"We gave ourselves a chance," Wizards forward Martell Webster added. "The execution down the stretch hurt us."

The Wizards have another shot at getting late game plays right when they visit Orlando tonight.
