Wizards vs. Pistons
at Verizon Center
TV: CSN+, 7 p.m. ET
Season series: Pistons lead 3-0.
Last meeting: The Pistons won 96-85 on Feb. 13 at home. They came back from three points down to outscore the Wizards by 14 in the fourth quarter to clinch the season series. Wizards PF Nene was sub-par, getting just 10 points and two rebounds in 33 minutes. The NBA’s seventh-best team in rebounding going into Tuesday's games, the Pistons held a 48-32 edge even without rookie C Andre Drummond (spine).
Previous game: On the road, the Wizards beat the Toronto Raptors 90-84 on Monday to improve to 18-37. At home, the Pistons lost to the Atlanta Hawks 114-103 on Monday to fall to 22-37.
Projected starting lineups: Wizards – PG John Wall, SG Bradley Beal, SF Martell Webster, PF Nene, C Emeka Okafor. Pistons – PG Jose Calderon, SG Rodney Stuckey, SF Kyle Singler, PF Jason Maxiell, C Greg Monroe.
Matchup watch: Monroe vs. Okafor. Both Cs performed well last time out. Monroe posted 16 points and 18 rebounds while Okafor had 20 points and nine rebounds. Okafor has been on a hot streak since Feb. 11 with three double-doubles in five games. In the two games in which he didn't register one, he fell one rebound short in each.
Trending upward: The Wizards have won 10 of their last 12 at home, but the last time these teams met SF Trevor Ariza and PG A.J. Price failed to score. Both are coming off the bench and have bolstered the second unit, combining for 20, 23 and 28 points in their current three-game winning streak.
Trending downward: Fortunately for the Wizards, they've been able to overcome their sometimes sloppy play with ball security. After having two games with six turnovers and two with seven turnovers this month, Wall has had just three total in his last two games. But as a team they're averaging 17 turnovers during this win steak.
He said it: "They've always had our number. I don't know why. They always end up playing harder than we do. Sometimes we end up beating ourselves and just letting them take over the game. We can't allow that to happen. We got to get at least one win against them." -- Beal on the Wizards' problems vs. the Pistons going into their fourth and final regular-season meeting.
Looking ahead: Friday vs. New York Knicks, 7; Sunday vs. Philadelphia 76ers, 6. All on CSN.
