Wiz take down Cavs, Backstrom makes a statement

Nene, who injured his knee in the Wizards win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday,  will miss approximately six weeks with a sprained left MCL, the team announced Monday evening.

The Brazilian big man banged knees during the third quarter against the Cavaliers, then limped off the court and did not return. The visual led to fears the 30-year-old power forward suffered a season-ending injury.

Should Nene miss the full six weeks, he would be out until the week of April 7. The Wizards final regular season game takes place in April 16.

In 49 games this season, Nene is averaging 14.2 points and 5.8 rebounds.

Washington (28-28) sits fifth in the Eastern Conference, but just 1 1/2 games ahead of the eighth and final playoff spot.

Without Nene, Trevor Booker and Kevin Seraphin will receive more minutes. The Wizards can add another big man with the roster spot that came open following last week's trade for Andre Miller.
