Wizards in good position to land impact talent

The Wizards learned their NBA summer league schedule in Las Vegas on Wednesday, and they’ll open play vs. the Golden State Warriors.

There are three preliminary games from July 13-16 to determine seedings and then a tournament will commence that will crown a champion for the first time in the league's seven-year existence on July 22.

The Wizards also play preliminary games on July 14 vs. the New York Knicks and July 16 vs. the Denver Nuggets. All three games will be played at Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV. Games also will be played at Thomas & Mack Center, also on the campus. Each team will get to play at least five games.

Twenty-one NBA teams will have summer league squads, which are comprised mostly of top draft picks, young and inexperienced players and free-agent hopefuls trying to land an invitation to training camp.

All of the games will be broadcast live on NBA TV, but a schedule has not been released.

Among the other franchises fielding summer league teams will be the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Bobcats, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors and a D-League Select team.

Tickets can be purchased to attend by calling 702-739-FANS, or through UNLVtickets.com.
