Dave Johnson has served as the play-by-play announcer for D.C. United live-game coverage on Comcast SportsNet every season since the team’s inception in 1996.
One of the premier soccer announcers in the country, Johnson has covered soccer for national television outlets such as Fox Soccer Channel and ESPN. He served as the play-by-play voice for the 2006 FIFA World Cup on XM radio, calling more than 20 matches, including the World Cup final in Berlin, and was radio voice for the 2000 MLS Cup, the 2000 Gold Cup, the 2000 Olympic qualifying tournament, as well as several U.S. National Team games.
Johnson is the longtime radio voice of the Washington Wizards, where he has provided play-by-play for the team’s radio network since 1997. He also serves as the sports director for WTOP Radio and regularly anchors for Comcast SportsNet’s daily news program, SportsNet Central. In addition, he has an extensive play-by-play resume of college football, college basketball and lacrosse.
Johnson has earned numerous awards and honors for his work, including a Capital Region Emmy Award and an Edward R. Murrow Award. A graduate of Towson University, he and his wife, Diane, live in Annapolis, Md., with their son, Pierce.
