D.C. United has announced the official signing of defender Taylor Kemp, the team's first round pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. United took Kemp with the 17th overall pick out of the University of Maryland.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Taylor,” D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper said in a press release.
“He will provide us as an excellent option as an attacking left back, and we look forward to his future with our club.”
A Colorado native, Kemp was an All-ACC Freshman Team and Soccer America All-Freshman Team selection in 2009. His sophomore year he was part of a record-setting defensive unit with a program-best 15 shutouts. Kemp tallied one goal and four assists his junior season and posted six assists in a Second Team All-ACC senior campaign.
Kemp has represented the United States on the U-18 and U-20 Men's National Team pools in England and Argentina. The 5'11", 153 pound defender is 22 years old.
