United States head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has backed midfielder Michael Bradley, despite criticism of Bradley's performances so far from many USMNT fans.
Many expected Bradley to be the breakout star from the US team during this World Cup, based on his performances in pre-World Cup friendlies and with Toronto FC this season. However, the midfielder has taken flack from fans for uncharacteristic mistakes such as the giveaway that ultimately led to Portugal's equalizer last Sunday.
Bradley's prior record of consistency with the USMNT and his aforementioned performances earlier this season have perhaps made the mistakes he did make in the group stage all the more glaring. Given the pressure of the World Cup, Klinsmann's tactical and formation changes, and a dip in form, those mistakes may not be all that surprising, either.
