D.C. United announced today that midflelder Lewis Neal has undergone an adductor release procedure on his right groin and a laparoscopic abdominal repair on his lower right abdominals.
The operation was performed by surgical specialist Dr. L. Michael Brunt of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.
Neal has appeared in one game this season, his second in the MLS, for 20 minutes as a substitute on March 23. He appeared in 18 games with seven starts last season and recorded one assist and two goals, including one against Columbus on October 20, 2012 that clinched a playoff berth for the Black-and-Red.
He is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
