Fantasy Fix: The final (top 150 players) countown

The final pre-season ranking of the top 150 fantasy football players for 2014. That's it, that's the (standard scoring) list. Well, assuming Josh Gordon doesn't sue his way back into the league or Rob Gronkowski doesn't break anything this week or the Raiders aren't the last team to make a quarterback switch. Before we dive into the rankings, some overall strategy thoughts based on the final two weeks of the preseason:

  • Jamaal Charles remains No. 1 overall, but at this point the gap between him and LeSean McCoy and Adrian Peterson is Kevin Durant thin. The Chiefs offensive line looked brutal most of the preseason, but Kansas City doesn't have a deep assortment of weapons like Philadelphia and Minnesota. That means all Charles, all the time.
  • Risers: Rob Gronkowski (playing Week 1!!); Michael Floyd (Red Zone target monster); Cordarrelle Patterson (moving past some "eh" options and has Norv Turner as his OC - just like Josh Gordon last season); Tom Brady (Gronk playing Week 1!!); Russell Wilson (Couldn't have looked better in preseason); Mark Ingram (crisp running); Devonta Freeman (Steven Jackson won't last long); Travis Kelce (Other than Charles, where else is Alex Smith throwing); Rod Streater (Derek Carr = QB upgrade).
  • Fallers: Wes Welker (concussion fears); Colin Kaepernick (yikes that preseason); Robert Griffin III (yikes that preseason); Cam Newton (rib injury and yikes Carolina's receiving corps); Trent Richardson (yikes that yard per carry average); Terrance West (Ben Tate now a 3-down back?); Sammy Watkins (E.J. Manuel, the ultimate QB yikes). ...Over the weekend I participated in a draft with several notable fantasy football players including some of the high stakes variety. Newton went QB13. He probably goes 4-6 spots higher a couple of weeks ago. RG3 went next. Still tons of potential, but the idea of counting on Griffin as one's go-to QB is gone for now.
  • For those in team leagues, most of the players listed 110 and below are potential Waiver Wire options for Week 1. Better to take a chance on upside (Ex. Andre Williams, Ahmad Bradshaw, Jarrett Boykin, Kelce, Jordan Matthews) for the opening week in some cases rather than purely safe option, let alone a second defense, kicker or possibly a second QB. By the way, if you've already drafted, make sure you're kicker is still on his actual NFL team. I already lost Alex Henery and Shayne Graham in leagues.
