Three Hokies were among the 26 players named to the preseason All-ACC team announced Wednesday.

Luther Maddy, Kendall Fuller and A.J. Hughes are Virginia Tech’s three representatives as selected by media members at the ACC Football Kickoff held on Sunday and Monday. The full team can be seen here.

Maddy, a senior defensive tackle, started all 13 games for Virigina Tech last season recording 55 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. In addition to the All-ACC team, Maddy has been named to four preseason award Watch lists: the Bednarik Award for defensive player of the year, the Nagurski Award also for defensive player of the year, the Outland Trophy for best interior lineman and the Lombardi Award for the best lineman or linebacker.

Sophomore cornerback Fuller also made three preseason Watch lists after a stellar freshman season. In addition to the Bednarik and Nagurski lists, he was also named to the Jim Thorpe Award Watch list which recognizes the nation’s top defensive back.

Fuller was named the ACC’s defensive rookie of the year last season after tallying 58 tackles and catching six interceptions.

Hughes, junior punter for the Hokies, averaged 44.1 yards per punt last seasons. He made a preseason Watch list of his own as he was named to the Ray Guy Award list which is awarded the nation’s best punter.

No Virginia Tech players on the offensive side of the ball were selected, but it seems fitting for a Frank Beamer team to have players on defense and special teams, the two aspects of the game in which his teams are known to excel, selected to the All-ACC team.
