Capitals left wing Jason Chimera has been fined – but not suspended – for his check from behind on Edmonton Oilers late in the first period of Monday night’s game at Verizon Center.
Chimera, 34, was fined $4,487.18, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The incident occurred at 19:19 of the first period and Chimera was assessed a minor penalty for boarding.
Oilers director of hockey operations Kevin Lowe told CSNWashington that Chimera’s hit was “dangerous,” but did not see an intent to injure on the part of Chimera.
“I’ve known Jason a long time and I know he would not intentionally hurt another player,” Lowe said. “He gave him an extra shove when he was tight along the boards.”
The fine money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
